Breakin'
way more Helter Skelter.

May 4, 1984 - 2024: 40 years of: Breakin'

Body-movin' to a different beat.

Fresh counterculture against disco and lucrative initial box-office run, America was now ready for hiphop, as Queen's Kings of rock were already shaking the underground: RUN DMC.

From the skate-parks of Venice Beach, disgruntled teens fights ...with straight outta this world dance-moves. Through a friendly rivalry competition, opposing teams would spin, slide, hop and break through with this new hyperactive signature: Break-Dance ...the true punks of pop.

Featuring a young Ice-T, the film was released to zero expectations ...and yet has now become required viewing for it's cultural significance and street-creds. The other movie beat-box hit of the same genre, was it's closest competitor: June 1984's Beat Street.

And just like 1983's Flashdance did for aerobics, the Golan-Globus produced flick would push these street-moves into the mainstream. Hittin' the iron while it's hot, as December '84 would see the day, just in time for Xmax: Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo.
