Février 1992 - 2022: 30 ans de: The Death Gate Cycle Of Reincarnation.

L'étincelle de vie commence ici.

Apres la vague deathmetal Estrie-nne de GORGUTS, PURULENCE, CADAVROSITY et MORKEUM, la folie s'installe finalement à Montréal. Cartier St-Michel, le Point Zéro pour le thrashmetal d'ANONYMUS, mais aussi le créneau de l'hyper-ventilation de THE SMILING DEAD, qui deviendra KATAKLYSM.

Une base de NAPALM DEATH, de REPULSION et de MONSTROSITY, le mélange unique de la quintette ne laisse personne indifférent. Très loin du son Floridien, très loin du son Stockholmien, mais tout aussi intense, KATAKLYSM produise un 17 minutes et 46 secondes de pure défonce et d'exhibition d'une force sur-naturelle. Produit par Pierre Rémillard d'OBLIVEON, le démo devient très rapidement un des préférés de la scène, car il divise: soit qu'on adore, soit qu'on haït.

Trois chansons, trois déluges dévastateur qui englobe les signatures distincte du deathmetal US, ainsi que du deathmetal EU, le tout sous le même toit. Occultisme, voyage interstellaire et réincarnation, coté concept, la table est rapidement mise avec Chapitre I et Chapitre II, qui continuera ensuite sur le Vision The Chaos EP de 1994. Les pièces plus longue, incluant une touche progressive, sont à des années-lumière de la mode-actuelle de blast-beat Satanique, le tout en gardant une signature hautement originale et mystique.

Le démo trouvera une place de choix auprès du catalogue-VPC du label Allemand Nuclear Blast Records, qui en 1993 signera le groupe et re-sortira la cassette en version MCD avec une nouvelle pièce-additionnelle: la démente "The Orb Of Uncreation". Ré-intitulé The Mystical Gate Of Reincarnation, voici dans leur rang le nouveau batteur Max Duhamel, qui fera partie du groupe pour la subséquente décennie.

La prochaine sorcellerie prendra forme en 1995, sous un album-complet produit au légendaire Morin Heights, sous la gouverne du célèbre Glen Robinson, connu pour ses exploits avec ANNIHILATOR, VOÏVOD ...et GLASS TIGER.

THE TIME, HAS COME !!!

Fuckin' hot from their 1992 demo The Death Gate Cycle Of Reincarnation, later released on MCD under the Nuclear Blast Records's blooming roster, this crazy Canuck climate-change is about to crack the scene in half ...a true KATAKLYSM.

World War Three attacks mercilessly, as "Sorcery" crushes the weak. Deathgrind with a ravaging fury, deathmetal gets "Mould In A Breed", while the almighty "Elder God" is summoned by chants from Sylvain Houde and Co.

Inside the eye of the tornado, the hyper-fast discharge of both "Once... Upon Possession" and "Dead Zygote" proudly challenges extreme metal head-on. Sucked into a blackhole, we gather under the unexpected instrumental vibrations of "World Of Treason".

While a little late to the deathmetal game, Québec is now on the map. Years after GORGUTS and following CRYPTOSY's debut-massacre of late 1994, another Montreal unit shall re-brand the genre, with modern mid 90s esthetics. Against all odds: this is a deathmetal rebirth, a new era has begun ...the poetry of war.

A brutal marvel, a brutal chaos and a frenetic frontmen, this mix is not for the masses. Slamming and crisscrossing both America and Europe with their unconventional destructive behavior, KATAKLYSM rapidly sat themselves as the new alternative in the extremes.

Enraged and pushing the trilogy factor into overdrive, the band shall present Heaven's ultimate venom: 1996's Temple Of Knowledge CD.

June 18, 1996 - 2026: 30 years of: Temple Of Knowledge.

"A year will come, when three 9 will collide, this year will be: 1999." But before the millennial cataclysm, the Northern Hyperblasters would rewrite a chapter in the extremes. Eons after Tampa and Stockholm's domination, mid 90s deathmetal was now facing serious competition: Norway's Church-burners. Not to be outdone, deathmetal's astral empire would be saved by some ambassadors of pain ...enter the KATAKLYSM (Part III)

Pure madness, as "The Unholy Signature" spews it's symphony of sickness. Pushing human comprehension into overdrive, new drummer Nick Miller blasts on "Maelstrom 2010" and the nerve assault of "In Parallel Horizons". Demented mystical deathgrind.

A divine calling as "Beckoning Of The Xul" is chanted from a high mountain top, as well as on the French written "L'Odyssée" ...a clash between Man and Ulysses. Balanced psyche melts away on "Fathers From The Suns", a riffology in ultra crunch, while insanity is twisted inside out on the video for "The Awakener" ...and unexpected single.

Le Québec torche en tabarnak !

A fuckkin' massacre as June 1996's Québec Death-Metal would stomp the scene with not one, but two immovable icons: KATAKLYSM's Temple Of Knowledge and CRYPTOPSY's None So Vile CDs ...two extreme in the extremes. Deranged metal with unhinged vocals and Tasmanian drumming. GORGUTS was a mere warning-shot: don't fuck with La Belle Province.

Following a tumultuous / disastrous North American tour, the band would disintegrate into oblivion. From these ashes a new sorcery would arise. A Houde-less rebirth ...featuring: Iacono, Dagenais, a returned Duhamel, new-bassist Stephane Barbe and some hip haircuts, would now break deathmetal traditions.

To reign again, KATAKLYSM shouts urban discipline: 1998's nümetal influenced Victims Of This Fallen World CD.

A new era.

Past the forgettable nümetal shades of 1998's Victims Of This Fallen World CD, the Maurizio led Montrealers would now reshape the scene. This new millennium would have neo-deathmetal as a signature ...KATAKLYSM provides it's very foundation.

"First, there was darkness..." Day One: "1999:6661:2000" ...a blunt force arises from the ashes of the late 90s. Rough and serious, this "Manifestation" is a mix of traditions and cutting-edge extreme. Through shadows and dust, the "Machiavellian" unit teases with Gothenburg-signatures and street-level knowledge.

Caught in a whirlwind, the almighty "Stormland" is the only "Gateway To Extinction". Brutal and beautiful, forever caught between good and evil, surrounded by fire KATAKLYSM stands tall in serenity.

Newly re-signed with previous partners Nuclear Blast Records, in a parallel horizon, the updated union would vaporize the scene with new metal for this fresh era. On a roll, the hyperactive KATAKLYSM would fire at will, with 2001's Epic: The Poetry Of War CD.

February 24, 2006 - 2026: 20 years of: In The Arms Of Devastation.

As they slither.

Ruling the renewed scene with 2004's Serenity In Fire CD and pulling a spinal tap ...we now welcome back Max on drums. Never bowing down, the manipulator of souls finally dominates, hail KATAKLYSM.

With an iron will, revenge is served cold as "Like Angels Weeping (The Dark)" decimates with clinical precision. The assault continues with pride on "Let Them Burn" and the extra mojo of "To Reign Again".

Dripping blood from Heaven, from doomdeath to metalmosh, the abrasive "It Turns To Rust" corrodes on contact, while hatching one of their biggest anthem of the era, this time the scene veterans gets completely "Crippled & Broken".

As our world burns.

Still self-produced by guitarist Jean-François, with bonus muscle from Tue Madsen, the sorcery was fully felt, worldwide. Alive, out of the shadows and through the dust, KATAKLYSM's divine force would strike again with 2008's Prevail CD.
