KORN
1994 - Korn.
way more Helter Skelter.
October 4, 1994 - 2024: 30 years of: Korn.
Yes ...time for another scene change.
Seattle was barely out of the loop, that not one, not two, but three new scene-shifters had already released ground-breaking CDs. The youthful GREEN DAY, the electronic NINE INCH NAILS and now the world must welcome ...the to-be leaders of nümetal, the explosive KORN.
"ARE - YOU - READYYY ?!?!?"
The opening simple riff-raff of "Blind" shines through the darkness. High-stamina and street-attitude attack on "Ball Tongue", the sick "Clown" and the deadly real mosh of "Fake". The more serious-topic on "Faget" and the inner-pain of "Need To", brings sensitive teen-related subjects right into the arena of hard-music. All words are precisely shouted by a very angry Jonathan Davis.
The thick guitar-tones are courtesy of the Ibanez Universe 7-string ...properly handled by new kids on the block: Head and Munky. Producer Ross Robinson also added some magic to the deep crunch of the final-mix.
Trendsetting a certain look, atypically to rock and metal, no major-label execs could've envisioned track-suits as eventual streetmetal attire. Metal-music and hiphop esthetics, KORN made that happened.
From the ashes of L.A.P.D., the second-half of the nineties was morphing and KORN would rapidly dictate the pace. Not a second to waste, not a riff to spare. After the RIAA-certified 2x Platinum plateau, the second Bakersfield massacre would lead us deeper into nümetal: 1996's Life Is Peachy CD.
