Three-letters that pushed the heavyrock renaissance.

STONE TEMPLE PILOTS, or STP for short, are synonymous with the post-L.A. rock scene from Cali ...but not from Seattle. Dropped-tuned and arrogant, the vibe is alive and infectious, these punks like it loud.

The doomrock beat of "Dead & Bloated" kicks the bucket with laid-back heavyrock taken from the great BLACK SABBATH book. Right into the dirty leading-single "Sex Type Thing". Altmetal's calling and College radios new to-go track ...what "Smells Like Teen Spirit" did a year earlier was being upped.

Hard driving track like the punkd "Naked Sunday", the massive crunch of "Wicked Garden" and the metalized "Piece Of Pie" provides high-gain guitars and multiple vocal ranges by tormented frontmen Scott Weiland. The "Creep" ballad is a melancholic trip, while the second-single for "Plush" eventually became a Billboard Charting sensation.

Grungy rock from San Diego, this impressive debut broke the RIAA-certified 8x Platinum plateau. After relentless touring and MTV Unplugged apparition in '93 ...the 90s were now fully drenched in STP (the motor oil).

The band would crack some more skulls with 1994's Purple CD.
