The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
way more Helter Skelter.

October 1, 1974 - 2024: 50 years of: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Barbaric butchery, based on a true story.

You ain't seen nothing yet. After the evil craze of Rosemary's Baby and The Exorcist, deep in the sidelined post-counterculture haze, some hippies shall make horror live. From the exhausting heat of the Lone Star State, the raw meat's on the hook, straight outta the kitchen, here's the Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Five young adults heading on a weekend trip to a remote shack. Running out of gasoline, some find a seamlessly abandoned house ...and one by one, they disappear. At dusk Sally and her invalid brother Franklin, finds light to the house where they are ambushed by the menacing chainsaw-wielding Leatherface. Captured by the secluded family, Sally would escape at dawn, bloodied out of a window in hell ...then she sank into catatonia.

This grisly work of art, set horror movie-making into a deranged gold-mine of the many faces of death. Part Frankenstein, part Norma Bates ...all Bubba, the world must now face the fearless, heartless and faceless: Leatherface. And the very first in a long line of scream-queens, the final lone female survivor from this demented event: Sally Hardesty.

Based on a true story.

Yes but not quite ...although heavily influenced by the true grave-robbings, true body-parts collecting and true dead-flesh wearing dementia of Wisconsin's own Ed Gein.

On the set, the stench is eye-watering, as the low-production means meets the blazing July Texas heat. Totally independent and free from outside influence, Tobe Hopper's Massacre would not only become an instant phenomenon, but a leading must-witness homicide-spree. Providing on every aspect, this movie delivers suspence and sheer horror ...even makes you question your own sanity at the conclusion.

You'll never see a rotisserie the same way, ever again.

In the horror-movie timeline, there's a define pre and post Chainsaw Massacre cut-off, as most future brutal blood-soaked messes would be compared to the original '74 slaughter. Spawning an immortal legacy that includes many sequels, reboots and a plethora of related merchandise, this nightmarish franchise would be an eternal voyage for generations to come. Everything's bigger in Texas !
