October 15, 1984 - 2024: 40 years of: Make It Big.

They woke us up.

After 1983's disco-vibed party-feast Fantastic LP, the bold British WHAM ! duo would reach new heights and set new standards in pop Eurodance. Magic in a bottle, they made it ...big.

The extra-colorful single and fiesta-filled "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" is an instant bomb. All smiles and all groove, this cut rapidly became and MTV-staple and eventual synonym of the dance-pop craze of the mid-decade. Suave hooks abound on "Everything She Wants", the hyperactive "Freedom" and funk-based "Credit Card Baby".

The heartfelt, sax-led mega-powerballad of "Careless Whisper" still sends chills body-wide. Moon-lit cool, this second-single once again, kept the band at the top of the Charts, on both shores of the Atlantic.

CHOOSE LIFE

The WHAM ! love-machine would be, for a short time, icons of dance-floors worldwide. Yet their legacy lives on, as both jukebox-singles are now immortal part of 80s pop-culture and esthetics.

RIAA-certified 6x Platinum and ending at the top, there would not be another WHAM ! release, as both men went separate ways in early '86. George Michael would arise and rebrand himself as a macho-men, with his first mega-hit solo-LP, 1987's Faith.
