April 1984 - 2024: 40 years of: Apocalyptic Raids.

Thrashmetal's doyen.

Not from any of the US Coasts, nor from Germany ...but from the inner sanctum of Switzerland. Pushing metal-punk deep into the crypts of Rays, the underground would never be the same, ever. What MOTÖRHEAD did to heavymetal some years ago, HELLHAMMER would do it to thrashmetal ...a genre that was still in it's infancy.

All three 1983 demo-cassettes: Death Fiend, Triumph Of Death and Satanic Rites featuring to-be influential Martin Eric Ain on bass, gathered fan appreciation for their rawness and crude execution. Re-recorded and packaged by Noise Records under the Apocalyptic Raids EP, the globe would now hear these necromantical screams.

The burst of "The Third Of The Storms (Evoked Damnation)" sets the pace at Mach IV, while "Massacra" desecrate all that is Holy ...speedmetal is now official. Diametrically the feedbacks and hellish yelling of the totemistic "Triumph Of Death" is a 9:33sec experiment in pain and dismay ...doommetal is now official.

Overly critical of these works, in recent times creator Tom G. Warrior came to peace with his trashy-past and even launched the TRIUMPH OF DEATH band ...celebrating the 1982-84 era in concert.

A descent to Babylon...

Influencing and laying the grounds for: thrashmetal, speedmetal, deathmetal and blackmetal ...needless to say, HELLHAMMER is Ground Zero for the extremes. At the dawn of Megiddo, said extremes shall be polished and fine-tuned with the new incarnation of evil: CELTIC FROST.

This revamped horror would change the game with their November 1984 Morbid Tales LP.
