The city of sins, casinos, brothels, high-rise hotels, fame, fortune and home of grind-core act RIGHTEOUS PIGS.

Not the first American grind-core act ever, as this title is due to Michigan Gods REPULSION, yet the PIGS were next in line. Started in 1987, they released their first album Live And Learn in 89 to lukewarm reception, but it is in 1990 that the kids went wild. And 1990 was a major point in time, were all music were crisscrossing each other, from heavymetal, to rock, to new-wave, to pop and to rap.

Fully crisscrossing between thrash and hardcore, between punk and grind-core, the recording was a celebration of brutality, riffs and DIY-attitude. The perfect hybrid for fans of both DISCHARGE and CARCASS !

And now the artwork, the only major drawn-back to the marketing of this album. Clearly some record-company exec didn't get the memo. Definitely not the typical deathmetal / grind chaos, blood and graves cover-art, as it is a full futurist sci-fi design ala Terminator-meets-Tron, totally 80s yet not-metal or is it ?

After the PIGS's quick dissolution, guitarist Mitch Harris joined NAPALM DEATH and crafted the grind seminal 1990 Harmony Corruption opus.

On a personal note, I got into RP in 1990, when a local radio-host said about them: "Picture 4 frustrated youths, fan of serial killers and chainsaw massacres, writing songs locked in a smelly garage" ...the DJ then played "Open Wound" I was hooked for life, thank you Uncle Norm !
