April 3, 1985 - 2025: 40 years of: The Ultimate Revenge.

A sick evening.

Studio 54 ...the mecca for Jheri curls, disco and rhine-stones. Hard to imagine such a venue, housing brutal metal bands. The year is 1985 and thrashmetal is the most violent form of music from the underground.

Pushing into speedmetal, the West-Coast Kings were the Bay-Area's EXODUS. Finally releasing their Bonded By Blood LP, these hungry piranhas showed no love. Next in line is Los Angeles's SLAYER, hellbound to unleash the machiavellian Hell Awaits LP ...one of thrashmetal's darkest incantation ever to be put on wax. It is a feast to witness prime SLAYER, with Tom Araya's high powermetal screams.

The new school takes over.

While VENOM were the evilest band on Earth, they faced major competition during this US tour. Presenting material from their Possessed LP, the British trio seemed out-of-phase with the hyperactive American young guns. Oddly, the VHS release doesn't includes any live VENOM material from the NYC gig, as footage from the 1984 Hammersmith Odeon was issued. We do however get a an intricate interview with both Abaddon and Cronos.

Combat Records would repeat this massacre in Autumn 1988 with the Ultimate Revenge 2, this time in downtown Philadelphia.

October 23, 1988 - 2023: 35 years of: The Ultimate Revenge 2.

Thrashing the Upper East-Coast's ass.

Rock, thrash and deadly. On a cold autumn October night, Philadelphia's Trocadero Theatre literally became Hell on Earth. Five acts, not from the Big Four, pushed the amps up to eleven: old-school and new-school in a metal tirade.

FORBIDDEN, FAITH OR FEAR, DEATH, DARK ANGEL and RAVEN, all united for one night of apocalyptic chaos. A beefy follow-up to the Ultimate Revenge 1985 Combat Records tour, then featuring: EXODUS, SLAYER and blackmetal Gods VENOM.

A violent changing of the guards.

Bay-Area new-kids FORBIDDEN's melodic-thrash destroyed everything, while FAITH OR FEAR's crossover edge and DARK ANGEL's maniacal-metal moved the pit with muscle-mosh. And while Florida's DEATH deathmetal-genre was knocking loudly at the front-door as the heaviest unit on the planet, the aging British-rockers RAVEN were obviously out of pace ...and out of place.

Riding high on Thrash-Metal's Second Wave, this ultimate revenge would serve as a catalyst mainly for both FORBIDDEN and DEATH, in developing a long fruitful career. There would not be an Ultimate Revenge III.
